To celebrate the heart of winter, the always inventive quintet Ventus Machina brings you a program with spring, summer, and a musical trip to some warm destinations. Rouge Gorge, a new work by New Brunswick’s own Sophie Dupuis, reminds us that the birds will soon be back to sing and show off their plumage. A musical ‘March break’ sweeps listeners down to Costa Rica for a vision of the Pura Vida, by Aura Pons. Then we stop in Mississippi for a fun-filled homage to the legends of early jazz. Returning home, we offer a fresh perspective on the Kitchen Party, set by composer Cameron Wilson. Finally we look forward to the year ahead by revisiting a classic from the past; Samuel Barber’s magnificent Summer Music.
